The International Institute for the Brain (iBRAIN) is one of the largest brain-injury special education programs in the world, based in New York City (locations in Manhattan and Brooklyn; Washington, D.C.), and is expanding to add an out-patient clinic, as well as growing its research efforts for the brain injury and brain-based disorders community. iBRAIN’s mission is to research, develop, and implement special education and related services for students who present with a wide range of impairments due to brain injury and/or brain-based disorders.
Position Title:
Deputy Director of Special Education
Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Director of Special Education at iBRAIN, with wide latitude for independent judgment and decision-making, the Deputy Director of Special Education will ensure the academic standards and implementation of each student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP) in the development of such IEPs and regularly assess its implementation. In addition, this person will also assist in developing new curriculum and programs for iBRAIN-Academy. This person will also have management responsibilities within the two current school-based programs located in New York City. Desirable attributes include clinical/educational experience with acquired brain injury, management of interdisciplinary teams, a strong foundation of research skills, and keen strategic focus. The successful individual is a natural leader who fosters an environment that promotes innovation and continuous improvement, effective, transparent communication with key constituents and stakeholders, and accountability for results.
Key Relationships:
The Special Education Deputy Director works closely with the staff, management, parents, donors, doctors, educators, therapists, media, and the brain injury community at-large.
Salary Range:
$95,000-$115,000 (based on experience)

Monday through Friday, typically 8.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m., with occasional prolonged and irregular hours based on leadership/management responsibilities.
